Bringing Bristol’s ballooning heritage down to earth, The Lite Series is a playful and interactive installation, premiering for the first time ever at Bristol Light Festival 2026.
Created by world-renowned local fabric engineers Cameron Balloons, whose iconic designs have shaped Bristol’s skyline for over fifty years, The Lite Series reimagines a beloved local industry as an accessible and immersive artwork in a glowing tribute to creativity, engineering and play, celebrating the magic of ballooning and the craft behind it.
Set on College Green, a cluster of illuminated, sculptural hot air balloons, each between 5 and 5.5 metres high, form a responsive landscape of light and sound. You are invited to take part by pulling a simple cord to ‘fire’ each balloon, triggering a burst of glowing colour and a whoosh inspired by a real balloon burner. As more people join in, the installation grows brighter, louder and more alive, transforming individual moments into a shared experience.
